Give help, get help – Food for charity

Today I read an article in the newspaper about a kind of food bank. It’s the first time, when I see an official initiative for the donation of food in Romania.

I’m so happy, because my opinion is that hunger is not a voluntary decision, but a given situation. Probably in every moment in the world there is a person, who didn’t eat anything that day, simply because he/she doesn’t have enough possibility to put food on the table.

In Bucharest there are some fridges on the street. If you have extra food, you can put it in there (exception raw meat, fish and cooked food). The current society has two big problems with food. The first problem is food wasting. Around 100 million tonnes of food are wasted annually in the EU. Wasting food is not only a social economic issue but depletes the environment of limited natural resources. The second problem is the big number of hungry people in the world. I think this initiative gives a small solution for our problems, changes the attitude of people towards food and gives a good feeling to those, who are involved in this by helping others.

I wish this project will be extended to national level and will not remain only in Bucharest. I would gladly help others, especially if food charity would be organized in a formal manner in my city as well.
